Man breaks wife’s hand over phone number || Drama ensued after an Odzi man found his wife with a phone number written on a piece of paper and beat her up until she broke her hand.
He has since been slapped with an 18-month jail term.
According to the Manica Post, Kudakwashe Chitsiku was convicted on his own guilty plea to the physical abuse charges he was facing when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Richard Ramaboa on Monday.
He contravened Section 3(1) (a) of the Domestic Violence Act, Chapter 5:16.
However, Kudakwashe will serve an effective 12 months in jail after Mr Ramaboa suspended six months of the sentence for five years on condition of good behaviour.
Mr Chris Munyuki was representing the State.
The court heard that when Kudakwashe found the phone number, he confronted his wife, Christine Chitsiku, as he suspected that she was cheating on him.
“He shouted at her and accused her of infidelity. Kudakwashe assaulted Christine all over the body with a log,” said Mr Munyuki.
Neighbors came to Christine’s rescue and rushed her to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.
Christine sustained a broken right hand, an eye injury and bruises all over her body.
Following a police report made by neighbors, Kudakwashe was arrested.
