Kumawood actress Gloria Kani opened up about life challenges revealing she gave birth to her first child as a very young girl.
In an interview, the actress of ‘Devil Between The Legs’ revealed that when she gave birth she was not more than 13 years old.
Narrating a rather sad life story, Kani, partially from the Brong Ahafo area and the Northern region, said her father was a soldier and she was born in Tamale’s Kamina Barracks.
According to the actress, when she was just around five months old her parents split making her mother move back to Kintampo from where she stayed.
Sometime after relocating to Kintampo, the mother left her and her siblings in the grandmother’s care, who found it hard to cater for them.
Kani started when she was about six years old, knowing everything she dreamed of came to pass. Nevertheless, her father mistook her unusual talent for the witchcraft and started to take her to priests to exorcise her spirit.
Those priests struggled to exorcise her and she was handed over to her anuntie (sister of her father she had yet to meet) after being thrown around for some time. All were fine at the place of her auntie and she even began school before one night her elder cousin forced himself upon her.
Unknowing what to do and unable to tell her auntie for fear of being branded a witch, she ran away from the house and came to Kumasi where she met the owner of the present Ashanti Home Touch (then running a ‘chop bar’) who took her as a daughter after some time of struggle.
While she was well received by the newfound parents, something happened and she had to leave Kumasi and go back to Kintampo where she later discovered that she was pregnant and gave birth before she turned 14.
Kani added a few weeks after giving birth, her mother emerged and she took the baby away after some time.
