Father shoots daughter dead, commits suicide || Members of the public have been shocked by the murder of a woman who was allegedly shot dead by her father and who also committed suicide in Montclair, Durban.

Thamsanqa Ngubane of Risingfield, Montclair, allegedly shot dead his 26-year-old daughter Thinah Ngubane at her home before he committed suicide on Sunday night, leaving many shocked.

A neighbour who said he was very close to Ngubane, said he had heard that Ms Ngubane was at the hairdresser when she received a call from her father looking for her at home.

“I don’t know where their argument started but we heard Tinah (the deceased) screaming for help, and we went out with my family.

 

Ngubane (father) calmly explained that they were arguing but only wanted his daughter to give him a chance, he requested to be given the opportunity to speak to his daughter, ”said a neighbor.

He said he was a well-respected man who was very helpful to the community and was admired, so they easily believed when he explained to them that there was nothing wrong, although Ms Ngubane had repeatedly shouted ‘not to leave her’ because her father wanted to kill her.

“I was shocked when he locked us out of the gate and pulled Tinah inside. Thinah insisted that if he wanted to speak he should speak in front of us but he said he would not talk about his family in public, ”he said.

He said the deceased (Ms Ngubane) had shouted that her father was not the person the community thought he was, so they should not leave her alone.

He said she had called her sister and her mother’s phone number to request that they be called at least to let them know what was happening, and when he went to pick up the phone, he heard Ngubane crying.

She was alone with her father as her mother was still visiting her daughter’s house.

“I hurried back to find out what had happened and when I entered, a gunshot was fired at me. I ran back.

He fired a second time and she stopped screaming, which made it clear to everyone that she was shot.

It banged for the third time, ”said a neighbour.

Family member Thulani Ngubane said they were not yet in a position to comment on the incident but the family would issue a statement soon.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Captain Nqobile Gwala said a docket had been opened at the Montclair police station.
