Drama as husband assaults wife and ends up biting in-law’s breast. || Kudakwashe Musengeyiwa (36) who resides at a flat along Samuel Parirenyatwa Street and is employed as a teacher appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nkosinomusa Ncube charged with physical abuse.
A Bulawayo man who appeared in court facing charges of assaulting his wife with fists before biting her arm and breast at the height of a domestic dispute pleaded for leniency saying he was drunk when he committed the offence.
He was convicted on his own plea of guilty and was sentenced to pay a fine of $15 000 and in default of payment will be sent to jail for four months. In mitigation Musengeyiwa defended his actions saying when he committed the offence, he was heavily intoxicated.
“I’m sorry your Worship, I hardly recall what really happened because I was drunk. I had been drinking alcohol all day such that it got the better of me,” pleaded Musengeyiwa.
In passing the sentence the magistrate also noted that he was a first offender who had shown contrition by pleading guilty to the charge. Facts are that on 20 July 2021 and at around 1am Musengeyiwa arrived home and found his wife Neprane Sweet (34) sleeping in their bedroom with their minor child.
The court heard that he started shouting at his wife while accusing her of witchcraft. The seemingly infuriated wife asked him to stop making noise since it was going to wake up the child but Musengeyiwa continued shouting before he started assaulting his wife with fists all over the body.
The court further heard that his wife’s younger sister tried to restrain him but Musengeyiwa went on to bite her on her right arm and right breast. The matter was reported to the police leading to Musengeyiwa’s arrest and subsequent appearance in court.
