Bantamahene crawls before Otumfuo || This afternoon, the Manhyia Palace Court was heated as Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Amankwaatia IV was summoned before Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for misconducting and desecrating its throne.
The head of the Ashanti Kingdom’s Konti Division was brought before the King after a delegation of sub-Chiefs sent to the Race Course Market returned with evidence that he had occupied parts of the land and even diverted the Subin River course for his private benefit.
The Bantamahene was said to have taken over forcefully parts of the Race Course land for shop building; he also filled portions of the Subin River with sand and diverted its course.
This greatly infuriated the King and threatened to kill him; a vote by all the divisions including Nifa, Kyidom, Adonteng, Akwamu and others with the exception of Benkum, who at the time of the deliberations had no delegate, said the Bantamahene had behaved in bad faith; nevertheless, they pleaded on his behalf for clemency.
Yet the Akyeame (Linguists) had persuaded the Asantehene to reject Baffour Owusu Amankwaatia IV outright for gross insubordination.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said he’d destooled him but, in the past, for the goodness of the father of the chief to him.
The King immediately ordered the immediate demolition of all permanent structures on Race Course lands and the restauration of the Subin River course.
Baffour Owusu Amankwaatia IV is seen in a video with his people crying out for mercy before the King as they are reproved.
